Rich and smoky on first impression, yet this harmonious Champagne is elegant overall, with sleek acidity and a minerally underpinning deftly married to flavors of strawberry pâte de fruit, toast, mandarin orange peel and crystallized honey. Description

A more subdued nose of predominatly yeast with a touch of wash rind cheese and raspberry bramble. The palate is light weight with a touch of tart fruits towards cherry and orange peel. This has medium weight, and medium acid.

The pink-orange colored 2008 Vintage Brut Rosé (disgorged March 2015) offers a very delicate, clear and elegant bouquet with juniper flavors. Clear, elegant and fresh on the palate, this is a round and well-structured, yet still very young Rosé with fine tannins and a nice grip in the finish. This is a refreshing palate cleanser that needs food or another 10-20 years to shine.

As with every Veuve Clicquot champagne, Pinot Noir dominates (61%) and provides the structure that is so typically Veuve Clicquot, followed by Chardonnay (34%) that adds finesse and elegance essential in a perfectly balanced wine, and then Meunier (5%) that rounds out the blend. To complete the cuvée, 14% Bouzy red Pinot Noir red wine is added. New to Vintage Rosé 2008 is that 5% of the wines were produced and aged in wooden casks (foudres) from forests in Central France, and this addition increases the champagne’s strength and aromatic richness. 91 Points Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker.com May 2016.
